Graduating from Trinity College Dublin in 2005, Dr. Duggan went on to complete his Masters Degree in Sports & Exercise Medicine, also at Trinity College Dublin in 2008. His M.Sc thesis won 1st Prize at the Royal College of Surgeons FSEM Annual Scientific Conference, and was published in the International Journal of Exercise Science.


He completed the Royal College of Physicians BST Programme in 2011, gaining particular experience in Neurology at St. James’s Hospital Dublin, where his special interest in the area of concussion began. He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (UK) by examination and has held a permanent post as Emergency Department Physician at St. Michael’s Hospital Dun Laoghaire since 2014.


He is team doctor to the IRFU National U20s rugby team for the 6 Nations and annual Junior World Cup tournaments since 2013. He has also been team doctor to Leinster Rugby, Dublin GAA U21s and FAI national teams. He holds Membership of the RCSI & RCPI Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine (Ireland).


Acutely aware of the growing concerns surrounding concussion in Ireland in recent years, Dr. Duggan underwent training in the UPMC Concussion Management Programme in Pittsburgh, USA. His service is providing access to expert concussion assessment, active treatment plans and personalised advice, supported by computer-based neurocognitive testing and weekly case discussions with leading United States concussion doctors.
